Professor Patrick Hudson uses the term WEIRD that stands for wildly erratic incident resulting in disaster. This acronym reflects the complexity of failures that the aviation industry experiences today.

We still have the classic CFIT and LOC-I, but failures now are insidious and hidden. These complex scenarios don’t necessarily have a checklist, and pilots may have to adapt currently written procedures ad hoc to support a safe outcome.

We enable the implementation of naturalistic and intuitive decision making that allows good and timely decisions to be made without having to perform extensive and time-consuming deliberate analysis. We also promote the translation of experience into action based upon deliberate practice. We aim for our trainees to strengthen their ability to size up situations and recognize what actions to take in a variety of settings.
